When Your Friends Get Engaged & When Your ‘Friends’ Get Engaged

Now that engagement season is starting to die down, you may start noticing something a little odd about your newly engaged buddies…

Either they’re acting like your best friends now or they seem more distant than ever. It’s especially apparent with friends who are just outside of your inner circle. Have a long think about who you know has got engaged recently and you’ll see…

My theory on this is simple: As brides-to-be realize just how expensive weddings are (this usually settles in as soon as couples start looking at wedding reception venues), they start thinking about who’s important enough to invite to their weddings and who shouldn’t make the cut. If you don’t make the list, your friend’s more likely to put some space between you, perhaps so you won’t feel so betrayed a few months down the line when you don’t get a wedding invitation. If you are deemed worthy enough to attend, the bride may feel like she needs to pay extra attention to your friendship to justify to herself why you made her wedding guest list.

My sister experienced this with two friends who she was equally close to. Both her friends got engaged over Christmas, I won’t reveal their names, let’s just call them Jess and Claire for now.

Jess started making plans with my sister during her engagement a lot more often than she previously had. Claire on the other hand, who I’d seen with my sister as often as I saw Jess until they got engaged, seemed to drop off the face of the earth. Sure enough, my sis was invited to Jess’s wedding (and I know, they were seeing each other quite a bit by the time invites went out), while Claire didn’t invite her! From what I could gather from Claire’s Facebook wedding pictures, she had about as many guests as Jess had at similar wedding venues. So it’s not like Claire had a tiny wedding, which would give her no choice but to nix outer circle pals. The funny thing is as soon as Claire got back from her honeymoon, she started making plans with my sister again. In fact, I remember my sis saying she got invited me to a few parties!

Like I said earlier, this is just a theory, but I’m starting to notice it with some more friends now. I’m so curious to see which ones invite me to their weddings!

Have your newly engaged friends been getting closer to you–or distancing themselves? If you’re getting married, have you done this to any of your friends who are on the borderline for getting a wedding invitation? Or is this theory just the workings of my overactive imagination?

7 Exercises That Will Have You Looking Amazing On The Alter

Sooo… You want to look great for your wedding? Well, it’s time to stop thinking about your tux and and what colour socks you’ll be wearing on your special day and it’s time start thinking about your temple, otherwise known as your body! Shedding any stubborn belly fat and adding more definition to your body will do you wonders, not only by helping you look great, more importantly it will help you feel amazing on your wedding day and more importantly give you that extra bit of confidence on your honeymoon 😉

If you’re looking to spice up your routine in the gym for more efficient and better results, look no further than these simple bodyweight exercises that will have a huge, positive impact on your appearance. It doesn’t matter if you’re a workout novice or you’re a workout reject; these exercises are perfect for EVERYONE.

1. Single-Leg Box Squat

The bodyweight squat just isn’t hard enough; that’s why we’re only going to use one leg. This exercise is phenomenal at strengthening your legs, burning fat, and making sure you don’t look like a guy who “skips leg day.” (Remember you’re going to be the main attraction when you’re standing up on the alter in front of all your family and friends, you absolutely don’t want your skinny legs to be the talk of the reception!)

Here’s how to do it: Start by facing away from a bench or box. Lift one leg, sit back onto the bench and come up without putting your other leg down. To make it harder, lower the bench or stand on a short box. You can also add resistance by holding a pair of dumbbells in your hands or wearing a weight vest.

2. Plank

The plank is one of the best bodyweight exercises for your core. It’s simple, it requires no equipment.

Here’s how to do it: Get into a plank position — resting on your forearms and body straight. Push your forearms into the ground to round your upper-back and keep your lower back flat. Make it harder by elevating your feet or putting your forearms on a stability ball.

3. Bear Crawl

This looks easy, but after 30 seconds, you’ll wonder how you were able to crawl so much as a kid. It targets the muscles deep inside your core and it opens your joints for less injuries. Use the bear crawl as a warm up or a finisher to burn some extra calories.

Here’s how to do it: Get on all fours with your hands under your shoulders and your knees under your hips; keep your knees an inch above the ground. Crawl forward by taking a small step with your right arm and left leg at the same time and alternate. Keep your hips low and your head up.

4. Pushup

Every guy should do pushups, yes EVERY GUY! Even if you bench 300lbs, the pushup will still help you build strength, size, and power — it blasts your chest as well as your core, shoulders, and triceps.

Here’s how to do it: Get in a pushup position with your hands about shoulder-width apart. Keep your lower back flat and don’t let your hips sag. Lower yourself and keep your elbows close to your body as you descend.

5. Inverted Row

The inverted row is a phenomenal bodyweight exercise to develop a strong and wide back, good posture, and healthy shoulders. They target the often neglected muscles in your mid- and lower-traps, rhomboids, and rotator cuff muscles. They train a strong grip which carries over from everything to opening pickle jars to setting a personal record on the bench press.

Here’s how to do it: Do these on a Smith machine, a power rack, a TRX suspension trainer, or rings. From underneath, keep your body straight like a plank and pull yourself up while squeezing your shoulder blades together.

6. Pull-up

The saying is that the average guy can’t do one pullup. But if you want a strong upper body, great arms, and less fat, pullups are a staple. If you can’t do one, that’s okay — wrap an exercise band around the bar and use it to give you a boost.

Here’s how to do it: Grab a pullup bar with your palms facing away and start by squeezing your shoulder blades together. Pull yourself up and lead with your chest. To make it harder, do ring pullups or wear a weight vest or belt.

7. Pike Pushup

Turn the traditional pushup into an intense shoulder exercise by doing a “pike” pushup.

Here’s how to do it: Get into a pushup position and raise your hips until you have a straight line going from your hands to your hips. (That’s called a “pike position.”) Keep your elbows in as you descend, drive yourself back up, and keep your hips up the entire time. Put your feet on a box or bench to make it tougher.

If you’re serious about looking your very best on your wedding day then these 7 simple exercise techniques should be practised religeously starting from at least 3 months before your big day.

It goes without saying that a good body deserves to be captured on in print and on digital, a good way to make sure you can flex those new found toned muscles without a care in the world is by ensuring you have a Photo Booth or a Magic Mirror available at your wedding reception. Over here at Platinum Moments, we always have great deals on for both these products among other needed wedding entertainments such as DJs, Sweet Carts & Magicians, get in contact to find out how we can help you.

5 Quick Tips To Picking The Perfect First Dance Song

There are many moments in your wedding adventure when all eyes will truly be on you and your fiancé. One of those moments is during your first dance. Not the best dancer? Pretty sure you have two left feet? Not to worry, all of that’s okay as long as you choose the most perfect first dance song. If you’re unsure of how to pick a winner, here are some tips to get you started.

1. Press Play on a Handful Options

If you don’t know where to start, you should scroll through your iTunes or Spotify playlist, and the playlists of your fiancé, and see if there are any songs that jump out at you and make your heart race an extra beat. Start with those options first. If the song is too much Rock n’ Roll (is that even possible) or too fast paced, you can always look up the acoustic version of the song and see if it’s a good first dance fit.

2. Lean on Google

A quick search on Google and you’ll have more ideas for first dance songs than you’ll know what to do with! It’s a great way to kick-off your brainstorming session.

3. Take the First Step

If you’re torn between a couple of options, put them on and practice your first dance. See which one feels right. See which one makes you beam with a contagious smile and feel an onset of tears rushing to your eyelids.

4. Make Your Own Mash-up

When it comes to your wedding, you shouldn’t have to compromise. If you want to do something a little different or combine a couple of your favourite songs, do it! You can even switch between a slow song and a more upbeat dance track.

5. Phone a Friend

Sometimes it helps to turn off your playlists and put an end on your Google search and chat with the people who know you best. Ask family and close friends to give you a list of songs that they think remind them of you and your hubby-to-be.

Green Is The Magic Colour!

We often see the Green Screen effect utilized in Hollywood movies time and time again, lately this feature has become extremely popular and widely used among photographers and Photo Booth suppliers as well. With our incredible Photo Booth technology and the ability to create the impossible with a simple backdrop, it’s no wonder the Green Screen effect is one of our favourites, not to mention an integral part of the Platinum Moments experience we offer our clients and customers! 🙂

Another cool feature is the ability to position the subject anywhere in the photo and re-size them to fit as you please. There is literally no need for a passport anymore! You tell us where you’d like to visit/ travel to and we’ll make it possible through our Green Screen technology.

Tips On How To Pose On Your Wedding Day

Posing, posing, posing… why would you want to pose when all you want is natural images on your wedding day? You’re excited about the planning, desperate to get into that dress of yours, however when it comes to the photography, well – let’s just say you want the fabulous and creative end result without going through the motions! And isn’t posing for all those traditional wedding photos that most modern couples don’t want anyway? Hmmmm..

You won’t be the first bride to break out in a sweat at the word posing and you certainly won’t be the last! It’s far more about looking natural (even if at first you don’t feel it) and accentuating your good points – think about it as avoiding those nasty bingo wings and wooden legs than standing awkwardly.

About two weeks before the big day, you’re going to be googling posing tips or asking all your bridesmaids how on earth you make sure you don’t have a double chin in your portraits. Which practicing your poses in our Photo Booth is a win/ win situation! All the pictures that come out great are the ones you use on your big day and all the silly looking ones will look excellent with our props and green screen backgrounds!

Swiftly moving back to your big day, here are a few tips from us so you can pose comfortably, naturally and confidently on your wedding day:

1. Change your view on ‘posing’ First off, remember posing doesn’t mean not looking natural. The most natural of photos are set up beforehand – it just means you hold yourself in a better posture and a more flattering way, you can still relax and have a laugh. A million times better than the dreaded looking awkward and grinning blindly into the camera, no? So shake off those nerves, trust in your photographer and stay the journey with your portrait session – you might even be having fun by the end of it!

2. Posture Roll your shoulders back and hold your back straight. Get yourself to a pilates class or walk around with a book on your head if you must! Just remember to hold your posture and the rest will already look a million times better.

3. Chins – joint second with flabby arms is the double chin fear. Don’t raise it, lower your chin – but you may want to move your head (not your neck) forward a little too. Goodbye double chin!

4. Hands – To avoid feeling or looking too awkward, you need to do something with your hands. Whether it’s holding hands, leaning on something, holding your flowers or putting a hand in your pocket, it’ll relax you as well as bring out a much more natural look.

5. Feet and how to stand for your wedding photos: Ever wondered why Posh Spice always used to put one foot in front of the other? It flatters the figure by accentuating your hip line. Though it’s nice to vary things up a little, this is a pretty good basic fall-back pose: with the weight on your back leg, bring the front foot forward a little or cross it over the back leg.

Now come get practicing in our Magic Mirror or our Photo Booth! With huge saving packages starting from as little as £295, it’s the perfect time for you to perfect your pose and ensure every picture that comes from your wedding day is a keeper!

10 Reasons Why You Need To Hire A Professional DJ For Your Wedding

Weddings are expensive! Unless you are marvelously wealthy, you probably have a budget that you are struggling to stay within. You may be scrambling for an area to cut costs, asking yourself, “Do we really need a professional wedding DJ?” Well, we’re here to tell you YES YOU DO!

Though you may be desperate to economize, do not give in to that temptation to let uncle Dave bring in his sound system and throw on his “Wedding Playlist” from 1998 or hire your neighbor’s 18 year old son to provide the evening’s main entertainment. This is one area where you are going to get what you pay for, and you need to be careful about skimming off the budget. You probably wouldn’t ask a family member to make the cake or design your dress, so you shouldn’t settle for an amateur DJ either!

1.    DependabilityYou are making arrangements for an important day. Your most important day in fact. But it is six or more months away, and the teenager you hire today may be less interested or willing when your big day comes. That friend of a friend who thought it would be handy to make a few extra cash may decide that they have a better offer by the time the date rolls around. What if they just get sick? Don’t allow yourself to be left high and dry.

2.    Professionalism – Your uncle Dave is much more likely to use his time on the microphone to tell inappropriate stories from your childhood than a professional wedding DJ would. Do yourself a favour. Search online for wedding reception disasters and note how many of them are related to DJs behaving badly. It may sound like fun to have a friend or family member running the show, but it has potential to turn into a train wreck… Believe us; we’ve seen it happen too many times!

3.    Reading the Crowd – A DJ is used to watching the crowd and knowing the right moment to bring out a slow song or a twerking banger. They know when to get things moving and when they should fade into the background of a special moment. It’s more than a list of songs that you love, but the right ones at the right times. That premade playlist may start blasting “Baby Got Back” at the most inopportune moment.

4.    Master of Ceremonies – Your DJ is more than somebody to keep the music playing. They serve as host of your reception, your representative to those who you might only get a few moments to speak to. Your DJ is part of the entertainment, energetically announcing fun dances and setting the mood for romantic ones. They are so much more than just somebody who will show up and play music. Your choice can make all the difference in the atmosphere for the party. Do you really want to leave that to your 18 year old neighbour or Uncle Dave?

5.    Handling Requests – Maybe uncle Dave refuses to play “that noisy new stuff” that your younger guests are begging for, or the neighbor boy doesn’t even know who Luther Vandros is. Spinning a mix of new and old, and having it available, to please everybody with appropriate timing is a skill that only a professional DJ will have. Most will have extensive libraries of thousands of songs, and have the expertise to blend them together for an enjoyable evening for all.

6.    Equipment – Are you sure that the amateur equipment that you plan on using is going to be able to boom through a spacious hall? The speakers that seem more than adequate in somebody’s house might be embarrassing inside a room full of 300+ people. It’s difficult to dance to whispering lyrics or those that have become distorted by inadequate equipment. What if something breaks? A professional will be prepared for such a possibility with back-up systems available, but your uncle, neighbour, or friend of a friend probably won’t be.

7.    Liability Insurance – If something happens to the DJ’s equipment, you don’t want to be responsible for replacing it. A professional will be covered.

8.    PresentationA professional DJ will show up looking like one and will treat your guests as such. Do you want your DJ showing up in a bedtime t-shirt and ripped jeans? Maybe that friend of a friend is more interested in flirting with the bridesmaids . . . or the bride’s mother! Do not be embarrassed by your Master of Ceremonies. Keep it classy.

9.    Investment – Yours and theirs. You are investing in your own memories and those of everyone who will be in attendance. The DJ has an investment in their business and their reputation. They are going to strive to please you and your guests. They will be dedicated to making the night everything you want it to be. An amateur just does not have the same incentive. They are in it for a few bucks or because they thought they might be able to have some fun and meet some people. Their priorities are not the same as yours. The wrong DJ can turn your dream wedding into a nightmare. Photo Booth Rental Essex

10. Peace of Mind – You are marrying the love of your life and having a fabulous time! The last thing you are going to want to do is worry about whether or not the DJ is showing up, if he has the right music, or if he has drank too much. After all, you are already going to be checking your hair, trying to manoeuvre in that dress, and keeping the peace between extended family members. Don’t give yourself one more thing to increase your anxiety. Hire a professional DJ, and know that the evening’s entertainment is in good hands. You can relax and enjoy yourself.

Speak to the us ahead of time, this will allow us to get a better understanding of what it is you’re looking for.  We’ll ensure we fully understand you and your desires for the night. With a good idea of what music you want played and when, we can subtly adjust where needed as the night progresses while keeping things within your desires. The right DJ can help create the wonderful wedding reception that you have been dreaming of.

Choosing the DJ for your wedding is a decision that you will not want to downplay. Think of the weddings you have been to. What made them enjoyable? Why do they stand out in your mind? You are likely remembering a DJ with a great personality, an amazing mix of music, or quality sound. You are going to spend thousands of pounds on your wedding, but being cheap in this category can affect the whole night. If guests start leaving early because they are bored or the DJ is rude, they are not going to stick around because your dress is gorgeous. This is an investment worth making.Check out packages Photo Booth Hire Essex

Why You Need a Photo Booth at Your Corporate Event

1. Photo booths are fun! Platinum Moments photo booths will play a huge party in creating fun at your event. A photo booth can be enjoyed by everyone; from the managing director to the cleaner, all your guests can get in on the fun, take silly pictures and laugh together.

2. It’s a conversation starter. Many of the guests at your event may not know each other, and having a photo booth will act as a simple conversation starter and get your guest talking. Photo booths often become the centre piece of an event and will keep your guests busy, engaged, and hopefully talking about your event long after it’s over.

3. Give your guests something to remember. Photo booths capture and print memories. Your guests will be able to leave your event with a souvenir with your branded company logo and contact details that they’ll most likely want to share with others on social media outlets including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. The pictures are a great way for brand awareness and with our huge social media following we will have your pictures going viral in no time!!!

4. Quality service and equipment. Platinum Moments prides itself on delivering quality service and equipment that will ensure that your event runs smoothly and that your guests can take and print high quality photos.Photo Booth Hire Essex

5. Retail
Having a photo booth set up during an event is an excellent approach to increase brand exposure and attract people to buy the company’s products. Photo booths are people magnets, especially when paying for the prints is not required. A great idea here is to rent the booth during a special sales event and you can customize the photo to have a discount or a coupon on it. Your customers will recall your company and the impressive bargain they received whenever they glance at the photo. This is a great way to increase sales and to remind your clients of your company even after they have left your event. Check out packages Photo Booth Hire Essex

Organizing a party to remember isn’t as easy as it sounds or as easy as you might think! You’re going to need to apply a lot of elbow grease, a little science, follow a few simple steps and pray to God you have lady luck on your side on the day of your party (you know how things love to mess up last minute).

There’s a bunch of crucial things you need to do in order to put on a perfect function. Everything from flyer artwork (or, should we say, Facebook banners) to getting an organic buzz around your party. The following checklist is guaranteed to ensure you’re the talk of the town after the party.

The Date

Make sure you throw your party on a day you know majority people will be free AND have money! The two come hand in hand; people can’t have a good time without money to spend on drinks, new outfits, new shoes/ trainers etc. And there’s nothing worse than organising a party to remember if everybody you invite won’t be there to remember it! You have to do ask around for people availability and see whether planning the party will be a waste of time. Let’s face it, you’re not Drake, Justin Beiber or some other celebrity who only has to give an hour’s notice and is still guaranteed to sell out any venue…

Create A Buzz

Give yourself a decent enough time to get a buzz going about your party! You need to get people talking about it otherwise you’re only guaranteeing yourself a flop of a party. I’d suggest a couple of months at least, and if you’re not a popular person I’d even suggest doubling that time. Use all avenues within you’re reach! You have to maximize exposure by making sure you’re advertising for free on social site such as Twitter, Facebook & Instagram.

Art Work

If you know a graphic designer or artist, get in touch with them and see if they want to work with you on some party artwork. It’s the year 2016 people so people want to know you’re making an effort with everything! Get something done that will set you apart from the others, first impressions count a million and you only get one chance to make a good one!

The Venue

Select a venue that your guests aren’t familiar with, doing this means you won’t have to worry about reminding them about bad nights they may have had at any other venues they’d visited in the past. Of course you need a spacious venue so you have enough room for everybody to dance. I always go for a no chairs rule, if your guests need to sit down, they shouldn’t be out, send them to the exit! People sitting down only brings the mood down for others and let’s face it, they also have a bad affect on pictures. Make sure your venue has room for a PhotoBooth, I’ve attended a lot of parties in my time and the ones with PhotoBooth are always better, they ease the mood when guests first start arriving and they bring out the inner children in every adult that chooses to get involved.

Everybody has danced so hard that their clothes have gone see-through with sweat. The lights are on and nobody wants to go home, where next? Avoid ruining things now by having an after-party destination locked and loaded. If you own your own place, I’d always suggest inviting a selected few people back round to continue into the early hours of the next day.

This recipe for having the best party has never ever failed me, I welcome you all to try it!

We’ve probably all done it before, I know we’ve definitely all been a victim of it at one stage of our lives, but what does having two fingers stuck up behind your head actually mean?

Ever since primary school, I can remember being a victim of the infamous bunny ears, also taking any chance I got to get somebody else with the home made ears, but it wasn’t until too long ago that I realised I had no idea how it originally came around, or the real meaning behind the gesture.

To be fair I just thought it was done to make the victim look like a plonker!

Then it dawned on me… what if it was the people practicing the two finger gesture who was actually playing a joke on themselves?

We can trace bunny ears all the way back to the Mid 50’s, this was also when taking pictures became more popular, and people started experimenting with their pictures i.e. posing. Before this time believe it or not, having your picture taken was described as more of a boring chore or even a punishment.

Some believe when bunny ears are put behind your head and the fingers are curved, it means that the person likes you or has a crush on you.

Other believe when bunny ears are done and the fingers are straight, it means that you are friends, and they’re playing with you.

Most people do it during pictures as a practical joke and think they’re ruining a picture for somebody who takes themselves too seriously.

I do it because I’ve seen it being done ever since I can remember and just like pouting I doubt it will ever go out of fashion.

Why do you do it?
